13–22 January 2027 | Thailand


The International Democratic Education Conference (IDEC) and Asia Pacific Democratic Education Conference (APDEC) will come together in Thailand in January 2027 for a 10-day international gathering centred on the theme Liberate Learning & Living.


IDEC–APDEC Thailand brings together educators, young people, families, activists and democratic education communities from across the world to connect, exchange ideas and explore how education can be grounded in freedom, participation, sustainability and community.


More than a traditional conference, the gathering is designed as an immersive community experience. Across the 10 days, participants will take part in global dialogue, youth panels, workshops, democratic governance and sociocracy labs, natural building, cultural experiences, regional exchange and opportunities to collaboratively imagine the future of education.


The program will explore self-directed learning in practice, democratic school models, community governance, conflict transformation and the future of education across the Asia-Pacific. A dedicated APDEC regional exchange will bring…
